CVA Announces Updated Optima Muzzleloader Variants | Optima XP Series

CVA hits SHOT Show 2026 with several announcements, but only one so far features their muzzleloading line.

After updating the lower-tier WOLF line of muzzleloaders in 2025 and announcing the top-of-the-line ENDURA in late 2025, CVA turns its focus to the middle of the product line, the Optima, for 2026 updates.

The Optima Pistol line has been popular for years now, recently on the forums we’ve caught several enthusiasts modifying the muzzleloading pistol to accept a stock to turn it into a super short muzzle loading rifle. CVA’s been paying attention.

The following is from CVA’s website

CVA Optima XP Series Overview

Editor’s Opinion

Looking at the focus on length, weight, and the pronghorn image in the promotional materials, this looks to be another foray for CVA to tap into the ever-growing Western hunting market. It’s not that muzzle loading has stagnated, but like expanding foam, manufacturers and enthusiasts have filled most, if not all, of the major areas for the sport. Developments like this are signs that the smaller, “niche” areas of the market could be a focus for the industry in the coming years.

While not on my list, I think the Optima XP-SB has a neat look, and I dig the standard buffer tube stock, allowing for easy swapping based on user desires. This is a nice change from some of the proprietary designs of CVA’s recent developments.
