CVA Issues RECALL of ALL Paramount Muzzleloaders

CVA announced a recall of its former premier muzzleloader on the morning of June 30, 2027.

The press release has this to say;

SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR CVA PARAMOUNT MUZZLELOADING RIFLES

Immediate Stop Use Order for CVA Paramount Muzzleloading Rifles

CVA is issuing a safety recall for all Paramount, Paramount HTR, Paramount Pro, and Paramount Pro V2 muzzleloading rifles. This recall pertains to all production years of these models. Owners are required to cease use of all Paramount rifles immediately and, if loaded, safely unload them as instructed in Section 17 of the owner’s manual. http://bit.ly/4vyYt6Q

Reason for Recall

An unsafe condition may occur if a Paramount rifle is improperly loaded, including but not limited to:

• Double loading

• Use of incorrect or incompatible powder

• Improper loading, cleaning or storage procedures

• Presence of obstruction

These conditions may create an increased risk of failure, serious injury, or death to the user or bystanders during the initial or subsequent firings.

Instructions for Owners

Immediately discontinue use and refrain from loading or firing, if currently loaded. For detailed instructions regarding the remedy, and to begin the recall process, please visit bpioutdoors.com/paramount-recall/ or contact our customer service team at Paramount-recall@bpioutdoors.com. To speak directly with a customer service representative, please call 770-449-4687, during regular business hours.

We understand this safety recall may be inconvenient, and we sincerely appreciate your cooperation and understanding. CVA is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer support, and we are working to make this process as simple as possible for affected customers.

The reasons for the recall are a little odd; any muzzleloader can become unsafe if it features any of CVA’s reasons for the recall. There has been a rumor for some time about a recall, and the launch of the CVA Endura and subsequent sunsetting of the Paramount left more questions. This now official recall lends some credibility to the rumor.

In January 2024, Stephen G. Lowry launched a lawsuit against CVA;

Harris Lowry Manton LLP is currently representing clients whose CVA Paramount muzzleloaders have exploded, causing serious injury and harm.

The article goes on to state;

Because Georgia is a strict liability state, there is no need to prove that CVA was negligent. The company owes a duty of care to its customers, and you could file a lawsuit against them if you used the CVA Paramount muzzleloader the way it was intended to be used and sustained an injury (and subsequent losses) because of a defect in the firearm.

Stephen’s biography states this about his legal career: “Steve Lowry is an award-winning personal injury litigator who has secured record-setting jury verdicts on behalf of his clients. A passionate advocate for individuals who have been harmed by the actions of others, Steve has won numerous top 10 verdicts in Georgia.”

Commenters on CVA’s social media posts about the recall have shared that CVA is ‘upgrading’ several customers to the latest Endura model. While the reasons for the recall seem odd, it’s nice to see CVA continuing to take care of customers the best they can. We’ll be following the story and will provide updates as they happen.
