Lousiana Permits Federal Firestick in “Primitive” Season | June 2025
Everyone’s favorite (said with some sarcasm), “Muzzleloading” technology sees another win in Louisiana this week.
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has approved the use of Federal’s FireStick technology for the 2025 fall hunting seasons, following changes to the state’s regulations regarding legal firearms during primitive firearms seasons. This amendment came at the urging of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), which highlighted the necessity of redefining firearm norms to include modern innovations. Jason Nash, Vice President of Marketing at Federal Ammunition, stated, “Federal also appreciates the efforts of our industry partners, including CSF, and their advocacy for the legalization of technology advancements like FireStick and the firearms companies building guns supporting the system.”
The approval of this technology didn’t happen overnight. The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission worked closely with the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), an organization dedicated to promoting hunting and fishing rights, to redefine what qualifies as a “primitive firearm.” This collaboration was key to updating Louisiana’s hunting regulations for the 2025-2027 seasons. Mark Lance, CSF’s Assistant Manager for Southeastern States, praised the Commission for embracing modern advancements like the FireStick, noting that it aligns with the needs of today’s hunters while still respecting the traditions of primitive firearms seasons. Louisiana now joins 25 other states that have recognized the FireStick as a legal option for muzzleloader hunting, signaling a broader trend toward adopting innovative hunting technologies.
Lousiana marks a majority lean for Firestick allowance during non-centerfire hunting seasons. This move will be a win for Federal and Traditions, CVA’s crossfire is still absent from many shelves. Thompson Center looks to release a firestick-compatible Encore soon, but no timetable has been shared.
