RWS Caps Return to US Dealers, 1 case limit

Muzzleloading enthusiasts looking for percussion caps will be excited to hear that a new shipment of RWS 1075 and 1075+ percussion caps have arrived at Graf & Sons.

RWS caps are maintaining last year’s price of ~$38 per tin of 250 caps. A case of caps (100 tins of 250 caps) is available from Graf and Sons for $365.99. Percussion caps are a “Hazardous Material” item and incur an additional “Haz-mat” fee. At the time of reporting, the Grafs Haz Mat fee for caps is $23.50. For shipping, Graf’s is charging $12.95 per order.

Graf and Sons are currently limiting orders to 1 case and 3 tins of RWS caps.

The price for RWS caps in 2024 isn’t cheap. At $0.15 per cap, percussion muzzleloader shooting is becoming an expensive sport. The flipside, however, is availability. While expensive, it is nice to see caps in stock at a seemingly regular cadence year over year. This time last year, we weren’t sure if and when more RWS caps were coming to the US. Seeing them here now in March 2024 is something positive.

In previous years, Graf and Sons have been the first of several retailers to stock RWS percussion caps. If previous years are any indication, other retailers will join Grafs in stocking these caps in the coming weeks.

What are RWS 1075 Percussion Caps?

Graf and Sons have both RWS 1075 and 1075+ percussion caps in stock, which one works with your muzzleloader? Generally, RWS 1075 and 1075+ percussion caps are similar enough in size to fit No. 11 Percussion Caps. If you use CCI or Remington #11 Percussion caps, RWS 1075’s should work fine.

RWS 1075s are usually a little large for #10 Revolver nipples, some shooters have reported that they are able to “pinch” the 1075 cap and get it to stay on the nipple, but the fit is not snug.

How are RWS 1075+ Percussion Caps different from RWS 1075 Percussion Caps?

RWS offers two kinds of percussion caps in the 1075 size class, the standard 1075 and the 1075+ percussion cap. As far as my research shows, the difference between the 1075 and 1075+ is the same difference between a regular #11 cap and a Magnum #11 cap. Just like the magnum #11 caps, the RWS 1075+ is considered to be a “Magnum” primer, offering a slightly hotter burn.

Muzzleloading enthusiasts all have their preference for what cap to use and it’s always good to consult your local muzzleloading club for more insight, but usually, enthusiasts who prefer the 1075+ or magnum caps are using them for hunting and may need the extra power of the +/Magnum cap to ignite a black powder substitute.
