Hornady teases new Muzzleloader bullet in latest Podcast

The hour long conversation covers how each of the hosts go involved in muzzleloading and how hunting with a muzzleloader has changed over the years for each of them, but at 41:15, the hosts begin talking about their upcoming hunts. Engineer Engineer Ryan Damman is heading out for a hunt after recording to field test a new muzzleloader bullet from Hornady.

As the conversation continues the hosts joke that the new unreleased bullet has the best groups shot out of a muzzleloader in the office, beating the popular Bore Driver FTX. No more is said about the bullet, but it does give us an inkling that Hornady could release a new muzzleloader bullet in the near future.

Reality is, we’re a bullet company, we’re an ammo company, we’re a company of innovators and we’re innovating. We are never going to stop
— Seth Swerczek Marketing Communications Manager

It’s common for manufacturers to use hunting seasons to test and get feedback on new products. Each year it seems we see hunters from all the major manufacturers out in the field with a non descript muzzleloader, powder, or bullet as the drive to innovate continues through the market.

We don’t know what the new Hornady muzzleloader bullet will be, but one hunch is some kind of full bore bullet. We’ve seen the custom muzzleloader bullet market take the full bore concept and do very well with it. Companies like THOR and Barnes have brought full bore bullets to the market, perhaps Hornady has taken notice.

While it might be some time before Hornady releases a new muzzleloading bullet, the BoreDriver FTX remains popular and has performed well in my muzzleloader tests in both accuracy and penetration. It’s always fun to hear about something in the works for muzzleloading enthusiasts.
