The only rifle in American history with a family connection to David Crockett | Tour with Greg Murry

Today we're at Greg Murry's Crockett Longrifle Project display at the 2022 Contemporary Longrifle Association show. Greg has spent 30 years researching, documenting and saving the history of the Crockett family's longrifle building career. The Forge Seat Rifle Shop ran from 1808 - 1826 and was operated by Samuel Crockett lll and Andrew Crockett lll, cousins of the legendary David Crockett

THE THREE ORIGINAL RIFLES THAT HAVE SURVIVED TIME ARE SIGNED S&AC, WITH THEIR MAKERS MARK, DATED 1811, NUMBERED 19, 1811, NUMBER 14, 1823, NUMBER 75, WITH THE CROCKETT'S LETTER "C". These rifles produced at Forge Seat, played an important role in American history. Crockett rifles are documented to have been at the battle of King's Mountain, Andrew Jacksons victory in the battle of New Orleans, "War of 1812", Defenders of Fort Chiswell and Fort Nashborough. Furthermore, these rifles were crucial in the frontiersmen's struggle for subsistence and defense along the wilderness trail.

Since recording, Murry has found even more documentation about the rifles made by the Crockett family at Forge Seat. Like all history, we are continually finding more and more and learning along the way.

I’d like to thank Greg for spending the time he did with me at the show, it was a busy time for him but he took time out of the show to walk me, and you, through the history and display. I’d also like to thank the Crockett family descendants for allowing me to share their wonderful history.
